Festival of Design and Innovation OverviewDuring the Festival of Design & Innovation we celebrated the work of our talented final year students. This extensive showcase featured work in the areas of:

The Festival is an annual event that continues to embody the spirit of design and innovation at BU.

Throughout the Festival, designs with the possibility to make a real impact on our everyday quality of life were displayed publicly for the first time.

Typically the event attracts over 1500 visitors including talent scouts from the BBC's Dragons' Den and companies such as Dyson. This year more than 170 designs and prototypes from our comprehensive range of design courses will be on display and give a real flavour of what design at BU is all about.

Previous Festivals have helped design students to gain commercial funding. Franziska Conrad designed The Quick Pitch, a pop-up tent that is now being manufactured under license by Gelert - one of the UK's favourite camping brands. The tent sold over 40,000 units in 2007 and BU now supports Franziska in developing an innovative range of tents in partnership with Gelert.

Product Design graduate Philip Robinson sold The BioLogicTM ZorinPump to Dahon Incorporated, the world's largest manufacturer of folding bicycles. It is now available in over 30 countries, and has sold more than 100,000 units to date.

The next Festival of Design & Innovation will take place in June 2012.
